Let’s Kill the Myth of “Talent”
There’s this idea floating around that creativity belongs to a secret club. You’re either born with it, like some golden retriever prodigy with a paintbrush, or you’re doomed to spreadsheets forever. It is a nice story. It is also a lie.
John Cleese nailed it: “Creativity is not the possession of some special talent. It’s about the willingness to play.”
Play. Not grind. Not hustle. Not waking up at 4:00 a.m. to “dominate the day.” Play. The thing we are all supposedly too old for, but secretly crave more than anything.
Play Is Where the Good Stuff Happens
Think about it. Every great idea you’ve had came when you were messing around. The sketch you started as a joke. The melody you stumbled into while being silly. The film idea that came out of you saying, “What if we did the opposite of what every normal person would do?”
Play is creativity’s Trojan horse. It sneaks past the inner critic, past the fear of failure, past the perfectionism that kills more ideas than bad taste ever will. Play says, “Relax. You’re allowed to be goofy for a minute.” And that is when your brain slips into gear and makes something brilliant.
Coffee as the Co-Conspirator
This is where coffee comes in. Not as the drill sergeant barking “focus harder,” but as the accomplice that gets you into the right kind of trouble. The smooth energy that lets you tinker a little longer. The clarity that helps you follow the weird thought to its equally weird conclusion.
That is why we made Cosmic Flow air roasted, single origin, bright with caramel, cherry, and floral notes. It is coffee designed not just to wake you up, but to say: go ahead, mess around with it.
Your Turn to Play
So here’s the deal. Today, when you pour a cup of Cosmic Flow, don’t sit down with the weight of “creating something important.” That’s the fastest way to choke. Instead, give yourself ten minutes to play.
Write the worst poem you can. Doodle with your non-dominant hand. Sample a random sound off the street and loop it until it feels like music. Whatever it is, let it be messy, pointless, even absurd.
Because play is where creativity begins. And with the right coffee in your system, you just might follow that silly idea until it becomes something unforgettable.
Sip. Create. Repeat.
